Nominees for the 12th annual Guild of Music Supervisors (GMS) Awards have been revealed, recognizing the craft of music supervision in film, television, games, advertising and trailers.

It's an unknown profession, with complex facets and often multiple levels of intervention. But without a music supervisor, there's no coherence, no ambition, no magic in the soundtrack of a film or TV series. So the profession has decided to make its voice heard. Pierre-Marie Dru, music supervisor at Pigalle Production, is the first president of the association bringing together these men and women behind the scenes. Cast your eye down the standard credits list for a film or TV show, and chances are you will come across a listing for a 'music supervisor'. It may seem like a casual, fleeting thing, but the presence of such a supervisor on a film or TV show invariably points towards the complex tapestry of music used in the production. So, what does a music supervisor do?

Behind the harmony and musical coherence of a film lies a figure little known to the general public: the music supervisor. Today, this profession is joining forces to create the Association des Superviseurs Musicaux (ASM), which will be implementing a number of projects in 2021. In addition to pooling their knowledge and skills, ASM members will be taking part in the first edition of Sœurs Jumelles, Rencontre de la Musique et de l'Image in Rochefort in June 2021, organizing round tables and leading master classes.
